Former Birmingham City and Sunderland players feature along with news that will alert the likes of Newcastle United, Stoke City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
Lazio, Rennes, Marseilles, Schalke 04, Palermo, Napoli, Fenerbahce, Celta Vigo, Eintracht Frankfurt, Rubin Kazan and Valencia all feature in a round-up of transfer stories from across the continent.
Mauro Zarate’s agent has declared ‘war’ on the hierarchy at the former Birmingham City players current employers Lazio. English clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool and Stoke have all been linked with a move for the Argentine while Genoa and Fenerbahce also show a vested interest. However it is believed the player and his representatives are unhappy with what they perceive to be an over-zealous price-tag that is making the deal increasingly difficult.
Staying in Serie A and Palermo have snapped up Salvatore Aronica from Napoli to try and help them stave off the threat of relegation. The veteran defender arrives on a deal until the summer of 2015 bringing a end to a four year stint in Naples.
In Ligue 1 both Marseilles and Rennes have added to their squads with the signings of Foued Kadir and John Mensah respectively. L’OM have snapped up 29-year-old Algerian international Kadir from Valenciennes for a fee in the region of £400k. He now meets up with his national team-mates for the African Cup of Nations and could lead to the sale of Loic Remy to Newcastle United. Meanwhile former Sunderland defender Mensah has returned to Rennes after leaving the club in 2008. The Ghanaian was available on a free transfer after leaving Lyon last summer and signs a contract until the end of the season.
Norwegian defender Vadim Demidov has returned to La Liga after just five months away. After a stint with Real Sociedad the former Rosenborg defender has been plying his trade in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt. He has since struggled for football and has therefore looked for a move away and it is Celta Vigo who have brought him in on loan with scope for a permanent deal at the end of the season.
Nelson Haedo Valdez wants to make his move to Valencia permanent at the end of the season. Currently on the books of Russian outfit Rubin Kazan the former Bundesliga operator has been on loan at the Mestalla since the summer and there is a buy-out clause of just €3 million included in the deal.
Fabio Coentrao recently spoke of his unhappiness at the Bernabeu and now the Real Madrid left-back has been sanctioned by the club for missing training on New Year’s Day. The Portuguese international is currently injured but was not given exemption from a return on the first day of 2013. The news may alert the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham who have all previously been linked with the player.
Schalke 04 defender Christoph Metzelder had made his intentions of a summer exit from the Gelsenkirchen very clear with a move to MLS his most likely destination. The 32-year-old former Real Madrid player also announced he could join his very first club, amateur side TuS Haltern suggesting any move would be based purely on his personal life.
