After a disappointing showing in last night’s 1-0 loss to QPR Rafa Benitez has said that Fernando Torres needs a rest.The Spanish striker has already played 33 matches for Chelsea this season, and has been poor in the past couple of matches after a flurry of goals gave hope he would revive under Benitez. However resting players was a key factor in Chelsea’s loss last night, and Dan Coombs suggest that Benitez might have made other mistakes too.
Chelsea will be hoping that potential new signing Demba Ba can lighten the load on Torres’ shoulders. The transfer has still not been finalised, but Alan Pardew was convinced it would go through when speaking before Newcastle’s match with Everton last night. Whilst the deal seems a good one for Chelsea, there is a chance that the Ba acquisition could backfire on the club, as explained here on HITC.
Real Madrid left back Fabio Coentrao is reportedly set to be offered to Chelsea and Manchester City after the Portuguese player fell out of favour at the Bernabeu after being late for training on New Year’s Day. Both English teams were rumoured to be interested in the player before his £27 million move to Madrid, and might now rekindle their interest.

One man who has arrived at Stamford Bridge is Yossi Benayoun, who has returned from an unsuccessful loan spell at West Ham during which he only featured six times.
There have been reports in Spain today that suggest Radamel Falcao is more likely to end up at Real Madrid than in London. It has been claimed that the Atletico president Enrique Cerezo suggested the player had already agreed terms with Madrid.
Finally Frank Lampard’s uncertain future with Chelsea has been affecting his and Christine Bleakley’s wedding plans, the daytime TV host has revealed. Lampard has been linked with moves to China, America, France and Italy in recent weeks, as Chelsea are yet to offer him a new contract.
