Yesterday we asked whether even if Chelsea were to sign Falcao - Would the Blues be able to assume an eight point gap on Manchester United. That was assuming they win their two games in hand. They suffered a shock defeat to QPR last night, meaning even if they win their remaining one; the gap will be 11 points.
Whatever additions Chelsea make this January, that may just be too much to overcome - with Rafa Benitez still really getting to know his squad.
The real credit from last night though should go to QPR - It was not just Chelsea's winning run which made most punters see the game as a home banker for the Blues - but Rangers wretchedness in a their defeat at home to Liverpool just days earlier which made the win so unlikely.
Recalled to the side by Harry Redknapp was Fabio da Silva, on loan from Manchester United. Fabio has had his injury problems this season, and was a substitute against Liverpool.
He was one of QPR's best players last night, winning five tackles and making six interceptions, more than any player on the pitch in each category.
Manchester United fans were thrilled at the hand he played in beating one of their title challengers, and here is how they reacted on Twitter:
@manutd_bulletin: Fabio doing really well. Battling for survival with QPR in the premier league will make him a stronger player
@zaidaali: Cant wait to see fabio and rafael playing together at united :D
@susanaunited: I thought our little MUFC Interloper, Fabio, played very well...made some very important tackles.
@united_forlife: Fabio did well today. Chelsea were clueless.
@calskate1: knew Fabio and Park would do the trick for United
@elrdee__: Kudos to Fabio, he defended great, barely put a foot wrong. I rate him over Buttner anytime
And here's what the defender himself posted on social network site Instagram after the game - Let's hope he doesn't get in trouble for his language!
Does Fabio have a future at United?
