Simeone informs Chelsea and Arsenal that Turan is going nowhere

Following reports linking Chelsea and Arsenal to Atletico Madrid playmaker Arda Turan, coach Diego Simeone has told reporters that the Turkish international will not be leaving the club.

Premier League side Arsenal had first shown an interest in Turan last week when the former Galatasaray man stated his desire to play for a side capable of winning the Champions League.

Chelsea then joined the race with mega rich owner Roman Abramovich believed to be willing to pay his release fee of £24m, however Atletico Madrid have since hit back at Turan and told him he will not be leaving the club this summer.

First team coach Diego Simeone today made it clear that Turan would not be leaving the club in January.

“Arda isn’t going. For sure.” he told reporters.

Referring to the comments made by Turan about wanting to play Champions League football, Simeone remained coy.

“No, because I don’t listen to them. As I have said before, anyone can say what they want to say. The important thing is what they demonstrate on the pitch.

“There isn’t a single fan of Atlético that doesn’t interpret that Arda is one of the best players we have at the club, who gives his heart in every game. He has a contract with the club. He’s ours and he shows what he needs to show, on the pitch, where it’s important.”

However, Simeone did state that problems over a contract renewal were still ongoing and that the midfielder's future at the Spanish club were by no means certain.

“It’s a situation that needs to be done. The renewal is still not concrete, but the best approach for us is to keep on winning.”

One player who is likely to leave Atletico Madrid is forward Adrian Lopez after Arsenal submitted a £10m offer to Madrid based side, albeit below his release clause.

The Spanish international has been in and out of the side this season and a move to join close friend and compatriot Santi Cazorla in London could be tempting.
