Fans react on Twitter to Manchester City and England keeper Joe Hart's shampoo ad

The number one goalkeeper for our nation and our Premier League Champions has appeared in a so-bad-its-funny advert for Head and Shoulders shampoo. Fair to say it has caused quite a reaction...

Joe Hart is considered many things by many differing people with equally wide ranging opnions. For instance his name popped up more than many others as Twitter users nominated their selection of #OverratedFootballers this New Year. However other people consider him one of the top keepers in world football; held in the same esteem as Spanish and German custodians Iker Casillas and Manuel Neuer.

However not many would have placed him in the category ‘actor’ when picking for a suitable label. That has now changed as the Manchester City and England goalkeeper stars in what has to be one of the worst appearances by a professional sportsmen in a TV advert.

Head and Shoulders is the brand that has managed to convince Hart to subject himself to untold amounts of stick in the City dressing room. The hair-care company has previously convinced the likes of Mark Cavendish and Michael Phelps to give up dignity with such appearances but this one surpasses both.

In a way it is so bad that it is good; or at least humorous. It sees Hart rolling around the floor in agony with what appears to be a serious head injury which is in fact simply an itchy scalp. Luckily for our number one goalkeeper it appears that Gary Lewin carries a bottle of the good stuff in his physio bag and before you know it the former Shrewsbury man is back on his feet.

While other sports have seen their players appear in worse, the long list of cricketers to appear in Advance Hair Studio for Men adverts immediately springs to mind, footballers have tended to steer clear of the telly ad in the recent past and thanks to Joe Hart we have a telling reminder of just why that is. Stick to the day-job Joe.

Here is what fans thought of the ad on Twitter…

Have you seen the ad? Can Joe Hart become the Gary Lineker of Head and Shoulders?
