Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been the butt of jokes over the last 24 hours.

Fresh from having a football blasted at his head 'The most dangerous thing' Sir Alex Ferguson has ever seen on a football field, the Dutch striker has become an unwitting laughing stock on Twitter.

Thousands of users have been tweeting the #prayforRVP hashtag, mocking the striker's 'near death experience.' - We aren't exaggerating, Sir Alex was - He said Van Persie 'could have been killed.'/

Ashley Williams has been keen to sidestep the row, claiming 'If I had tried to hit him on the head deliberately, I would have missed'.
