Five striker options for Tottenham Hotspur in January

Leandro Damiao V S Korea

Andre Villas-Boas has been over reliant on Jermain Defoe all season, with Emmanuel Adebayor struggling to get a run of games due to suspension and injuries. Even if the Togolese striker doesn't go to the African Cup of Nations, Spurs might well look to reinforce their attack this January.

Nick Harris runs through five potential targets...

1. Fernando Llorente

One of the most talked about players in Europe last season has barely played this time around, as a dispute with his club Athletic Bilbao has worsened. Llorente has announced he will leave on a free when his contract expires next summer, but he might be moving in January if Bilbao try to get as much money as they can from a transfer. Spurs will face competition from plenty of sides if the rumours about his cut price £7 million price tag are true, with Juventus the side that have seemed closest to signing Llorente in the past.

2. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

Another man with a contract expiring in the summer, Huntelaar could be available for a similar fee to Llorente in January. Whilst the Dutchman's form has dropped off a little of late, he has proved over the past two years at Schalke that he can score anywhere if played regularly. Spurs would face competition from North London rivals Arsenal and perhaps also Liverpool, although Rodgers might be satisfied with Dnaiel Sturridge if the rumours of his impending arrival at Anfield are true.

3. Bafetimbi Gomis

The 27 year old Lyon striker has been in excellent form in France this season, netting 10 goals in seventeen league appearances. Gomis has stated recently he was flattered by the interest being shown in him by English clubs, and could be open to a winter move. Lyon's poor finances are what led them to sell Hugo Lloris to Spurs in the summer, and if their chairman isn't still too aggrieved over Daniel Levy's approach to those negotiations, then Spurs could return to France for Gomis, who is rated at around £8 million.

4. Leandro Damiao

Damiao has been on Spurs' radar for quite some time, but they had looked to have missed the boat on the player, who is now coveted by some of the top sides in the world, and valued at nearly £50 million. However Internacional have failed to qualify for next year's Copa Libertadores, and with Chelsea likely to follow through on their interest in Radamel Falcao, Spurs might be in with a shout once again. He won't be cheap, but a January move for Damiao might be Spurs last chance of signing the young Brazilian.

5. Demba Ba

It looks increasingly likely that someone will meet Demba Ba's release clause in January, with the player seemingly courting a move. Arsenal and Liverpool were favourites, but may cool their interest if other transfers come through for them. Whether Spurs will be happy to pay the high wages Ba is reportedly demanding is questionable, but the £7.5 million price is right for a proven Premier League goal scorer.
