Arsenal latest: Including Henry and Koscielny

Thierry Henry Warms Up

News and gossip from The Emirates in the past 24 hours.

Major Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov has called for Gunners legend Thierry Henry to return to the club…in a coaching capacity. The billionaire is not currently in the capacity to make decisions off his own back at The Emirates but believes bringing in Henry in a similar role to that of fellow former Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira would be a shrewd move as he believes that ‘’the presence of a champion can radically change the soul of a team.’’

Despite the game not being until Monday there is still some team news emanating from North London ahead of the fixture with Reading at the Madejski Stadium. The club expect to have French international striker Olivier Giroud back in contention after his back problem while Laurent Koscielny has also returned to full training after his thigh injury. Theo Walcott will be assessed nearer to the game to see whether there has been any change in his calf problem.

Chelsea are reportedly set to steal the march in the pursuit of Arsenal forward Theo Walcott in January; with a £15 million bid. The Blues are looking to offload Daniel Sturridge who is widely expected to be on the brink of a move to Merseyside with Liverpool and see the current contract issues Walcott is having at The Emirates as the perfect opportunity to pry him away from their London rivals.

A former director at Arsenal Football Club has claimed that majority shareholder Stan Kroenke has no passion for the club. Lady Bracewell Smith sold her shares to Kroenke last year and she went on to reveal she had no idea why he wanted to be part of Arsenal FC and that he ‘cares very little’.

Arsene Wenger has gone on record to deny rumours of a rift in the coaching staff at the club; in particular between himself and current assistant Steve Bould. The former Gunners defender replaced Pat Rice at the end of last season stepping up from his role as defensive coach and some sources had claimed a split was forming in the pairs working relationship. Wenger however insists that there is a united staff at the club and his relationship with Bould is strong.

Wenger has again gone on record to confirm his belief that he is the right man for the job at The Emirates. Pressure has mounted on his position after several poor performances in recent weeks but the gaffer believes he is still the only man for the job citing his love for the club as the main reason.
