News, views, and gossip relating to Tottenham Hotspur over the past 24 hours.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto is finally back in full-time training for Tottenham after a knee injury which has kept him out longer than first anticipated. The player joked on Twitter that he has been out for so long he hopes he remembers the names of his teammates. It is too early at present to say whether he will be in contention for the weekend's game on Saturday, and Andre Villas-Boas should give an indication in regard to that in his press conference later this week.
The Star is today reporting that Real Madrid are still keen on luring Tottenham's Gareth Bale to the Bernabeu. The report is quite fanciful, claiming the Spanish giants want to offer a huge £57 million bid for the Welsh winger's services. It goes as far as to add Madrid will fund the offer by selling Brazilian left-back Marcelo to Chelsea, who of course could replace Ashley Cole. We'll believe this one when we see it.
Liverpool have offered an apology to Fulham for their failed pursuit of Clint Dempsey this summer, who ended up being sold to Spurs. Fulham had complained to the FA over 'tapping up', and became very reluctant to deal with the Reds, and a line has now been drawn under the whole saga. Fulham said on their website they had withdrawn their complaint.
Carlo Cudicini is preparing for a January exit, and a quite attractive proposition could be heading the 39-year-old goalkeeper's way. The Italian has emerged as a target for David Beckham's former club LA Galaxy, the Mail write. He is currently well down the pecking order at Spurs, with Hugo Lloris and Brad Friedel ahead of him, and Heurelho Gomes also in the reserves. The only sticking point could be if Spurs sell or loan Friedel toBlackburn and want the Italian to stick around.
With Tottenham linked to Porto winger Christian Atsu, and Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang, HITC's Mathew Nash takes a closer look at both of them and brings fans the lowdown on what they might need to know about either player, which can be read on the links above.
Goal.com reports that Andre Villas-Boas wants to add a creative midfielder and a winger to his squad in January, and will push chairman Daniel Levy to complete the business he wants to achieve. The reports claims AVB wants to renew efforts to sign Joao Moutinho from Porto, even though the deal is 50/50 at best, and has told his chairman the club could be pushing for the title now had they bought their top targets in the summer, including the Portuguese midfielder, and Brazilian striker Leandro Damiano.
