Five potential Premier League destinations for former Arsenal man Mathieu Flamini

Flamini Arsenal

The former Marseille and Arsenal utility man is currently out of the picture at AC Milan. With a contract expiring in the summer he could be available on the cheap for any team willing to take a gamble on a bargain buy. Who could make the move?

Mathieu Flamini is definitely on his way-out of AC Milan. The French international has been linked with a move back to the Premier League in the wake of the news. Currently his deal at the San Siro runs until the end of this season but after struggling for the last two seasons with injury he has not managed to earn a place in Massimo Allegri’s starting squad despite his positional dexterity.

He is not one to mess around when it comes to making a move. He assured Marseille he would be signing a professional contract with them as a 19-year-old; only to jump ship to Arsenal months later. He then pulled a similar stunt when he left North London for Serie A in 2008. Interestingly he has mentioned Marseille as a possible destination but considering the less than amicable manner in which he left the club that seems far-fetched.

Some sources have linked him with a move to Liverpool or Arsenal; however both those options again seem unlikely.

But at 28-years-old and finally fighting fit after a tumultuous 20 month period who could benefit from having the versatile Frenchman on board?

Everton are always looking for extra cover on the cheap as was highlighted by the acquisition of Thomas Hitzlsperger earlier in the campaign. Flamini can operate at either full-back position and in the centre of midfield which would certainly appeal to Moyes and his penchant for versatility. His fitness worries would have to be mirrored in the structuring of a wage packet for the cash shy Toffees.

Flamini perhaps did not get the credit he deserved for his excellent technical ability but his passing is certainly up there with the standard necessary to succeed at The Liberty Stadium.

Newcastle United

Flamini could join the Francophone revolution at Newcastle United. Alan Pardew’s men have shown their fragility when it comes to injuries in recent weeks. Form has dipped considerably as more and more class operators visit the medic’s table. If they could keep Flamini off of it he could prove a vital acquisition for Newcastle United’s busy schedule.

Again Flamini’s talents would lend themselves brilliantly to Fulham’s style of play. He could provide back-up to Sascha Riether at right-back while also serving a purpose in the middle of the park when called upon.

West Ham United

Something of a Sam Allardyce signing; Big Sam is never afraid to give a faltering career a kick up the backside for his and the players benefit. Flamini may not be an archetypal West Ham player but blending in the likes of the Flamini’s in the world may be what gives The Hammers that final push toward European football.

Where do you think Flamini could end up? Would you want him at your club?
