Transfer Talk: Featuring Distin, Lewandowski and Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku

Everton, Chelsea, West Brom, Manchester United, QPR, and Arsenal are the talk of the papers today...

All the transfer news you need to know over the past 24 hours...

Everton defender Sylvain Distin has emerged as a transfer target for QPR, report the Mail. The French centre-back is out of contract next summer and at 35 says he wants to remain in the Premier League. Tottenham are also claimed to hold an interest, but a move is unlikely considering their wealth of centre-backs. Everton could look to replace him with Norwegian Vegard Forren, or Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott.

Rafa Benitez will not recall Romelu Lukaku from his loan at West Brom, the Chelsea manager has told The Sun. The striker has scored five this season and is happy at the Baggies for now. Benitez said: "It's maybe best for him to stay there where he is playing games for now, as it will be better for his future development."

Daniel Sturridge is another Chelsea striker who may not be playing for the club in the New Year, with the striker ready to agree terms with Liverpool. The two clubs are said to have agreed a fee, with the attacker wanting confirmation he will be played through the middle.

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski was yesterday claimed to have clinched a move to Manchester United, according to reports on the continent, but this has been denied for now at least by his manager Jurgen Klopp. The manager is certain the Pole will not be joining United in January, which we don't doubt, but he did not make reference to next summer, when a move would be more likely in any case, and the Telegraph claims the Red Devils are ready to wait it out until the end of the season.

It has become a newspaper trend this year to create transfer rumours out of who does not make the team calendar (someone should tell them clubs are allowed 25-man squads not 12), but the Mirror are at it again today claiming an 'exclusive' that Nani will leave Manchester United. The winger has just 18 months on his contract and is yet to be offered a new one, but the paper have no further detail with regards to any transfer.

Arsenal are said to be ready to activate Demba Ba's release clause in January, report The Sun. The Gunners want to sign the Newcastle United striker who netted twice for the Toon last night in a 3-0 win over Wigan. Ba's contract allows him to be bought for just £7.5 million, and the prospect of Champions League football may tempt the Senegalese forward. However manager Alan Pardew says he is confident he can keep his top scorer.

And finally, former Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll says he wants to stay at Greek club Olympiakos beyond the end of the season. The veteran shot-stopper could line up against old foes Arsenal tonight in the Champions League, and the 35-year-old aiming to win a one-year contract extension.
