News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled captain and defender Nemanja Vidic out of his side’s final Champion’s League group fixture with Cluj, as he isn’t willing to risk the skipper – nor will he be likely to feature in next weekend’s derby clash with Manchester City.

The manager said it was the right the thing to do,

“He will not play in the derby if he doesn't play tomorrow, although I wasn't considering him for Sunday anyway."

Meanwhile, across town City have there own injury woes to deal with as the good news for United fans is that key playmaker David Silva is a serious doubt for the derby clash on Sunday.

City boss Roberto Mancini conceded,

“Silva is not here because he has a hamstring injury, and we do not know at the moment if he can recover in time for the derby.”

Danny Welbeck has spoken out about his future at United and, although the English striker is finding it increasingly difficult to get a run of games in Ferguson’s first team, due to the form of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, and Chicharito, the striker insists he wants to learn from his Dutch elder.

He said of his teammate,

"He’s a world-class striker and to watch him week in, week out is something that is of great benefit to me. He is definitely someone I can look up to."

However, further doubts over the future of United winger Nani have been exacerbated with the news that he has been omitted from the new year’s calendar.

Speculation over his future looks unlikely to subside as he is left out, due to his failure to sign a contract renewal at Old Trafford.

In more injury news, Shinji Kagawa back in training this week and his manager has high hopes that he can return to the team sheet, potentially as early as this weekend, following successful knee surgery.

And the manager’s provisional squad for tomorrow night’s Champion’s League fixture at home to CFR Cluj-Napoca has been revealed by the BBC as follows:

Lindegaard, De Gea, Rafael, Jones, Smalling, Wootton, Ferdinand, Buttner, Evra, Cleverley, Giggs, Fletcher, Powell, Scholes, Carrick, Young, Hernandez, Welbeck, Rooney, Van Persie.

In transfer news, Borussia Dortmund boss Jürgen Klopp has issued a hands-off warning to United over transfer target Robert Lewandowski. The coach insisted that the Polish striker will remain at Dortmund for the duration of the season, at the very least.

Klopp stated,

"Manchester United are one of many teams showing interest in him. But the fact remains the contract is with us. The time when big, rich English clubs tried to take our players from Germany, thank God, is over. In the second half of the season he'll be with us."
