FIFA has apparently chosen the Club World Cup to employ goalline technology for the first time during that tournament, which is scheduled to be played from 6th to 16th December. As Champions of Europe, of course, Chelsea will take part, and temporary manager Rafa Benitez will hope he can repeat his feat of 2010 when he won the trophy with Inter Milan (also a team that he inherited after it had qualified).
Cynics, however, question the wisdom of using any tournament in which Chelsea play to pilot goalline technology.
'Is FIFA having a laugh ?', one Chelsea fan told Here Is The City. 'Have they been down to Stamford Bridge in the last week ? Two games, and two 0-0 draws. Somehow I don't think they'll be must need for goalline technology the way Chelsea are playing under Benitez!'.
Chelsea haven't scored in the last three games, and there's little likelihood of that changing with Torres upfront and Mata warming the bench .
