Arsenal Players To Get Performance-Related Pay

No Pot Of Gold

Arsenal's finest look likely to have performance-related pay clauses inserted in their new long term contracts.

In another example of how Arsenal is increasingly being run (sensibly) as a business, players like Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott , Jack Wilshere and Bacary Sagna (all of whom are in long-term contract negotiations) may be penalised in their pockets in the event that the club doesn't qualify (and do well) in the Champions League, which is clearly a lucrative source of revenue for the club.

One Arsenal fan told Here Is The City: 'The news will no doubt be viewed by the cynics as another indication that Arsenal are worried that they won't even qualify for the Champions League this season, but this is more to do with ensuring the long-term survival of the club. Why shouldn't the players have some skin in the game ? Alligning the interests of the players and the club is surely the right thing to do'.

Another told us: 'Win bonuses are another form of performance-related pay. This move is just taking that one step further. Very sensible'.

A Chelsea supporter said: 'It's a good job that Arsenal players aren't going to be paid on the number of trophies they bring back to the Emirates, otherwise they would be in trouble'.
