News and gossip from The Emirates in the past 24 hours.
Arsenal came away from Goodison Park with a 1-1 draw against Everton. Described pre-game by goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as a ‘six-pointer’ in terms of European places Arsenal nerves were eased after seconds when Theo Walcott curled the ball into the far top corner before the clock had even ticked round to a minute. Everton however responded well with particular threat coming from Baines and Pienaar but in the end of was a left foot effort from outside the box from Maraoune Fellaini that brought proceedings level; which is stayed despite pressure at both ends till the final whistle.
Arsenal are said to be looking to go back in for Borussia Dortmund prodigy Mario Gotze in January. The German international has emerged as one of Europe’s top midfield talents over the last two seasons and Arsene Wenger is reportedly a huge admirer of his style of play. The 20-year-old reportedly has a release clause in his current deal of £30 million which may put the Gunners off, but considering his talent it could prove a tempting scenario.
Andre Santos has dropped another hint that he may move on in January after revealing that a number of Turkish clubs are interested in his signature. The recently maligned ‘’full-back’’ has lost his battle with Kieran Gibbs for first choice left-back position at The Emirates and a return to Turkey, where he previously played for Fenerbahce, is his preferred option.
Wilfried Zaha will not be joining Arsenal if he leaves Crystal Palace, according to current Eagles boss Ian Holloway that is. The former Blackpool boss does not feel that Wenger talking about his players was ‘right and proper’ and ‘bad etiquette’ from the Frenchman. He stated that no matter what the price in January ‘Wilf’ would not be available for any potential suitor.
Maraoune Chamakh may get his wish of leaving The Emirates in January after all. Bordeaux have failed to muster up the wages and transfer fee necessary but a lifeline has come in the shape of Turkish outfit Fenerbahce. Fener are looking for a replacement for Cameroon international striker Henri Bienvenu who is set to be offloaded in January.
Emmanuel Frimpong has finally been given the green-light to switch allegiances to Ghana at international level. The midfielder, currently on-loan at Charlton Athletic, has had his status changed by the FIFA Player Status Committee after representing England at youth level. He has always maintained a desire to represent The Black Stars however and now that is a possibility.
