Five potential transfer targets for Harry Redknapp at QPR

David Beckham LA Galaxy

Mark Hughes was inevitably relieved of his duties at the back end of last week, with Redknapp coming in to sit in the stands for QPR's 3-1 loss at Old Trafford.

With Redknapp’s renowned penchant for signing players he’s worked with before well known, who will be on QPR’s shopping list in January?

Michael Dawson

The Spurs defender very nearly made the move to QPR in the summer, with reports suggesting a £9 million fee had been agreed. Villas-Boas indicated that deal would have been allowed despite already having lost Kaboul to injury, which suggest Dawson was well down the pecking order at Spurs, something borne out by his limited appearances this season. Redknapp needs to strengthen the QPR defence, and Dawson seems the perfect candidate, you’d be surprised if this move wasn’t resurrected in January.

David Beckham

Having been frustrated in several attempts to sign David Beckham for Tottenham Hotspur in the past, Redknapp may well try again at his new club in January. A lot depends on what other teams may be interested in the former England captain, with PSG often mentioned as a potential destination, and also on Beckham himself. If he is looking for a move back to England, QPR might be the likeliest option, and Redknapp would likely be keen on Beckham’s experience in a QPR squad that has been a bit of mess at times.

Jermain Defoe

Defoe is a firm Redknapp favourite, but is also an important player for Spurs this season. However if the North London side were to go out and sign a striker themselves in January, there may be a chance for QPR to move for Defoe. Right now this move looks unlikely, but things can change quickly in transfer windows, and you would expect if Redknapp gets a sniff of Defoe, he will try and make it happen.

Robbie Keane

The LA Galaxy player is reportedly again looking for a short term move to the Premiership during the American off season. With QPR lacking options up front, and Redknapp well aware of Keane’s abilities, they may look at a loan for the Irish striker as a solid option for January. Keane has plenty to offer, and his experience and skill could be invaluable as QPR look to avoid the drop.

Scott Parker

Another player who you would expect to be an important man for Spurs when he comes back from injury, but if Sandro and Dembele maintain their fine form, and Spurs sign another midfielder in January, they might be convinced to let Parker leave. QPR’s main strength is probably their central midfield, but if Parker became available in January, there’s every chance Redknapp would be keen to get him.
