The sacking of Roberto Di Matteo and Mark Hughes this week showed how ruthless football can be. Here are four of the favourite managers to next get the boot from their club.
Nigel Adkins – Southampton
Nigel Adkins remains under pressure despite his side recently picking up three points over QPR. The Saints are one of the most talented attacking sides in the country but the fact they can’t seem to keep a clean sheet means the manager is under constant pressure. It’s not all cloak and dagger just yet but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Adkins as the next boss leaving his club.
Roberto Mancini – Manchester City
Mancini is under a lot of pressure every single weekend at Manchester City. The fact they have failed to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League for a second season in a row could mean he’ll be given the boot if City fall away dramatically in terms of the league form over the next couple of weeks. He’s said he feels safe but he’s anything but.
Brian McDermott – Reading
McDermott is on the list of gaffers who could be facing an exit because Reading are lingering near the bottom of the league. They won the Championship to get into the Premier League but are struggling with the standard of football. Two or three more defeats over the coming weeks for Reading could see an end to McDermott’s managerial reign at the club.
Brendan Rodgers – Liverpool
Rodgers could be in line to lose his job if Liverpool don’t dramatically turn things around and start climbing the table. He has thanked the owners of the club for being patient but the sacking of Kenny Dalglish showed that no one is safe at Liverpool regardless of the style of football they play or how popular they are. Rodgers could be axed if Liverpool don’t turn things around quickly.
