Full-back Mike Brown ready for a shift on the wing for England

The Harlequins full-back Mike Brown is set to start on the wing for England when they unveil their side to face South Africa at Twickenham.

Stuart Lancaster is wary of the Springboks' kicking game and is hoping Brown's strong left boot and ability under the high ball will prove a useful tactical antidote.

Lancaster could have shifted Manu Tuilagi or Jonathan Joseph to the left wing in place of the axed Charlie Sharples but Joseph will now be among the replacements. Up front, Ben Morgan, Tom Wood and Alex Corbisiero have earned recalls and Wasps' Joe Launchbury is mounting a strong challenge to his club-mate Tom Palmer at lock. England are confident Geoff Parling will play despite a sore knee.

The All Black Adam Thomson may not face England next week after the International Rugby Board announced it planned to appeal against the player's one-week suspension for treading on the head of Scotland's Alasdair Strokosch earlier this month. In a statement the IRB said it "strongly believes" the sanction handed down by the independent judicial officer Jean-Noël Couraud of France was "unduly lenient" and lacking in consistency.
