Arsenal latest: Including Walcott and Frimpong

News and gossip from The Emirates in the past 24 hours.

Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has left the club on loan until the New Year. The Ghanaian centre midfielder has been out injured for large portions of the last couple of seasons with a knee problem and despite widespread expectation that he would return to Wolves for his most recent loan spell instead he has joined Charlton Athletic. He expressed his joy at the move on Twitter and is looking forward to gaining some first team exposure at Championship level and therefore earning a contract extension at The Emirates.

Arsene Wenger insists that he will gamble on the future of Theo Walcott and is in no way considering selling the England international in January. The former Southampton man is out of contract in the summer and is therefore free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with another club from the 1st of January. However Wenger is confident the player, who is currently Arsenal’s top scorer this season, will sign a new contract at The Emirates once the two parties can agree on the specifics.

Arsenal have promoted Chuba Akpom into the ‘B’ list for the Champions League. He has also been handed a first team squad number and it is expected he will make an appearance in the first team before the year is out. If he does so he will be wearing the number 67 shirt.

Arsene Wenger hopes that the win over Spurs in this weekend’s North London derby can help rejuvenate his ‘special team’. Last season an exact replica of the result on Saturday saw Arsenal go on a great run of form which helped them secure third place in the Premier League. He feels the result will help restore confidence in the squad ahead of the Christmas period.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to go head to head with Liverpool in a battle for Wigan stopper Ali Al-Habsi. The Omani stopper has emerged as one of the best keepers in the Premier League and Wigan are believed to be receptive to offers of up to £7 million. It is believed that Wenger wants more competition for number one Wojciech Szczesny especially as Lukasz Fabianski is destined for the exit door this summer.

Arsenal favourite Robert Pires believes that Lukas Podolski can become a legend at The Emirates. The jury is still out on the German international who has been inconsistent in his debut season at the club but on the back of an impressive North London derby the Frenchman told German media that he felt the former Bayern Munich forward had all the attributes to become a legend at the club.
