RBC Appoints Energy Veteran As Non-Executive Director In Europe

Royal Bank of Canada announced the appointment of Clare Spottiswoode as Non-Executive Director of RBC Europe Limited, the bank’s London-headquartered European subsidiary.

Ms. Spottiswoode has over 20 years’ experience in a variety of roles spanning the public sector, energy markets and the financial services sector, including as director general of Ofgas, the UK gas regulator, where during the ‘90s she oversaw the transformation of the UK gas industry. Spottiswoode has since 1995 held non-executive positions in a range of large and small businesses, and between 2009 and 2011 was a member of the Which? ‘Future of Banking Commission’ and the ‘Independent Commission on Banking’ chaired by Sir John Vickers.

Commenting on the appointment, John Roberts, Non-Executive Chairman of RBC Europe Limited said: 'RBC’s reputation for corporate governance remains among the best in the industry, underpinned by strong leadership, governance standards and oversight. Ms. Spottiswoode joins RBC Europe Limited on 1 December 2012. Sir Andrew Foster, who served as Deputy Chairman of RBC Europe Limited since 2003, will retire from the board in November. Jim Pettigrew, who joined the RBC European board in 2009, will assume the role of Deputy Chairman, RBC Europe Limited.
