Part-exchange? Five Manchester City players Liverpool should try for in Suarez deal

Suarez Free Kick

Manchester City are after Luis Suarez - According to today's Express. What advantages could Liverpool try to gain in any deal?

So Luis Suarez is a target for Manchester City. It was sort of inevitable when you consider his excellent form - And we'd like to set our stall out early and say we don't believe he will be sold. Although we thought that with a certain Spaniard. So history has taught us not to be so sure.

Brendan Rodgers has spoken of his determination to keep the attacker, who recently signed a new contract, but by all accounts, City are very determined to get their man.

Money talks, and the amount of money FSG have available is unclear. If Liverpool received a £50 million offer, what should they do?

We know what happened when £50 million came in for Fernando Torres - And we are not suggesting for a second Liverpool take the money and go and find another Andy Carroll to spend it on.

However if a huge offer did come in - And Suarez made his intentions to leave clear; Are there any Manchester City players the Reds should push for if they were forced to sell the striker?

As they selling club they would hold a certain amount of power, and could demand a part-exchange deal.

Here are five they could consider...

Edin Dzeko

If Suarez came in, City would have to look at letting a striker go. Edin Dzeko is in superb form this season, but struggles for starts, and despite being a proven matchwinner - remains frustrated with his lack of playing time. At Liverpool he would certainly be the star man.

Scott Sinclair

Sinclair was linked with Liverpool in the summer, and saw his career blossom under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers. Since signing for City he has made just two league starts. If it doesn't improve by January, Liverpool could tempt him on loan, and give themselves another option on the left-hand side, and in attack and take the pressure off Sterling.

Carlos Tevez

Mancini may have patched things up with Tevez, but how long-term is it? For Suarez to arrive, City may consider letting Tevez go as the players are too similar, and there is no doubt the Argentine would invigorate the Liverpool attack. That, and just imagine how mad it would make Manchester United fans. 'Welcome to Liverpool'?

Javi Garcia

Javi Garcia scored on his City debut, but since then it has been an inauspicious start for the former Benfica man. It would be odd of City to let him leave so soon, but if they went back in for Daniele de Rossi, as is being suggested, then Garcia may find himself pushed to one side already. He is just the sort of cultured midfielder who would thrive under Rodgers, and it could just work out for the best.

Aleksander Kolarov

The Serbian left-back is constantly in and out of the side at City, with Gael Clichy preferred in defence. Would he be an upgrade on the inconsistent Jose Enrique? You bet, and his crosses are certainly more effective than Stewart Downing's. There would still be the majority of the funds left too to buy a couple of strikers.

We are quite sure Liverpool fans wouldn't swap Suarez for anybody- and when Jamie Carragher says the Uruguayan is the best player in the Premier League, he isn't far off. But that's why City want him. He's certainly the most in-form player in the division, netting in his last four matches for club and country.

What happens from here with City, Liverpool, and Suarez is unclear, but as shown above, Liverpool do have options beyond a simple 'accept' or 'decline' offer. Part-exchange deals rarely take place in England, but that isn't to say they shouldn't.

If Liverpool could bank £25 million plus Tevez or Dzeko, for Suarez, would they not come out better off?

Tevez plus £25 million for Suarez? A good deal? Would you take £50 million for Suarez? Which City players would you snap up if you could? Let us know your views...
