Video: Liverpool targets Rodrigo and Deulofeu net for Spain under-21s

Liverpool have been linked with both Rodrigo and Gerard Deulofeu - Who both turned in goalscoring performances last night.

For hints over where to find talented young footballers; look no further than Spain's under-21 side.

The under-21s who won the 2011 European Championships included David de Gea, Javi Martinez, Ander Herrera, Adrian Lopez and Juan Mata - Almost £100 million worth of talent right there just between those five.

And this current batch are no different, with Malaga playmaker Isco the 'star attraction' in the side.

Last night Spain swept aside a talented Italy team in 3-1 away win, and the opening goals were scored by two players previously linked with Liverpool.

With the Reds believed to have a relatively sizeable transfer pot to spend on goalscorers this January, combined with Brendan Rodgers' liking for giving young players opportunities - You can be sure the club's scouts will be taking note.

The other important piece of business last night was a debut for Liverpool's Suso. He came off the bench to play out the final seven minutes- and the best news for Liverpool fans was that he avoided injury.

Scorer of the opening goal was Rodrigo, who plays for Benfica. Those with good memories will recall the 21-year-old from a spell he had on loan at Bolton when just 19, but back then he wasn't half the player he has matured into now.

He smashed four past Denmark's under-21 side last month in a 5-0 win, and continued that form last night, taking his record for the team to 12 in 10 games.

He has four in 10 games so far for Benfica this season, and was touted as a Liverpool target in September.

Scorer of the second goal, albeit a relatively simple tap in, was the exciting Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu.

The 18-year-old has netted six in six for Barcelona B this season, and a first team opportunity may not be too far away if he continues to display his current form.

The Mirror reported back In July that the Reds were eyeing a £7.5 million offer for the teenager, with Barcelona considering a loan deal, but neither materialised.

Liverpool would do well to play on their willingness to give youth a chance, and convince Barcelona that Deulofeu's development would be best served via a loan move to Anfield between January and the end of the season. It's certainly worth asking about.

Italy's goal was scored by Spain based Espanyol forward Samuele Longo, with subsitute Alvaro, of Getafe, rounding off the victory in the 93rd minute - But not after Italy had come close to equalising.
