Arsenal's January spending spree - The five players that they might sign

A wide-man, goalkeeper and centre forward are the reported targets for Arsene Wenger in January and all are accounted for in this list of the more likely names linked with a move to The Emirates in the winter window.

According to many sources Arsene Wenger is about to be handed a £35 million warchest to spend on new recruits this January. While some of the names being mooted with an Emirates arrival seem a bit fanciful and some of the prices being quoted as appetising a thought as scorpions on toast there are other rumours circulating that carry much more credence.

Let’s have a look at them.

Fernando Llorente

Could we all stop banging on about Fernando Llorente? Well no quite frankly because the fact remains he is one of the hottest properties in world football at the moment.

While Juventus are widely believed to be the frontrunners for the Bilbao contract rebel the Italian press report the asking price has dropped to just £5 million! That is daylight robbery and to quickly dispel a myth the tall and physical frame of this player does not mean he is a target man. Apparently he is a ‘non-Wenger- signing’ which is ludicrous as he has emerged through the Athletic Club Cantera system where technique is a pre-requisite requirement. What I am trying to say is this man has more style in his play then Olivier Giroud does in his hair.

At £5 million Arsenal must pursue this signature.

Adrian Lopez

You can see why Wenger is a fan of the Atletico Madrid playmaker. He is cute, nimble and witty on the football to the point where I am dubbing him the nickname ‘The Gerbil’. His goal return is not great but he is just such an Arsene Wenger styled player you can see them stumping up the £15 million required to meet the 24-year-old’s buy-out clause.

Michel Vorm

Arsenal want a new keeper and while the links remain with Pepe Reina a move for Swansea stopper Michel Vorm seems far more relevant.

The Dutchman recently signed a new-contract but as we have seen many a time in football the value of contracts is about on par with the toilet roll in the dressing rooms. He is currently out injured leaving him time to stew over a deal and his excellent shot-stopping, distribution and footwork make him the perfect keeper for the Arsenal mould.

He would likely take Szczesny’s place as number one and rightfully so.

Will Hughes

As much as Arsenal fans want to see big names arriving the likelihood remains it is players such as young Derby County prospect Will Hughes that will be on Wenger’s radar. Nigel Clough has been told to raise money at Pride Park and moving on the 17-year-old midfielder for a reported fee of £4 million to any number of Premier League suitors is a more then viable option.

Kieran Trippier

Carl Jenkinson may have recently signed a new-contract at the club but their other current right-back Bacary Sagna looks ready to jump ship with Inter Milan courting him like a prom date.

Trippier is still young and has proved himself at Burnley after not making the grade at post-revolution Manchester City. A regular youth international Arsenal have reportedly been keeping an eye on the talented full-back for a number of weeks now and see him as perfect back-up to Jenkinson in the right-back position.

Which of these players would you like to see?
