Manchester United latest: Including the fight for Eriksen and Sneijder

All of the latest news relating to Manchester United from the last 24 hours.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is yet to decide his future at Old Trafford. Ferdinand has been linked strongly with a move back to West Ham United as his current deal expires in the summer. United are thought to be keen in tying him down to the club for the rest of his career.

Manchester United are down to two fit strikers ahead of their Premier League clash with Norwich. Injuries to Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie mean that Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck are likely to start for United providing them with an opportunity to claim a regular starting place.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech suggests the title can go to one of three clubs this season. He has admitted that Manchester United are the firm favourites and will only lose the title after making major errors. Cech expects United to punish any mistakes from Chelsea or Manchester City.

Manchester United could miss out in their bid to sign African defender Mehdi Benatia. The Udinese player is thought to be keen on a switch to a bigger club but recent reports from Italy have suggested he is more willing to stay in the country than move to England.

Manchester United face a fight with Liverpool to sign Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen. Eriksen has stalled over a new contract at Ajax with reported heavy interest coming from Anfield. United are yet to move for the player but may be able to pay a higher fee than their local rivals.

Russian club Anzhi could be ready to swoop for Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder. Manchester United have been linked with the Dutchman after he recently stated he was unhappy at the club. However, United may not be willing to match the fee Anzhi are ready to pay for the playmaker.

A report from the Mirror claims United target James Rodriguez could cost £24 million because of a contract release clause, in contrast to the £36 million asking price touted last week. It would be a huge boost for the club, as they would hope to offload Nani for a similar amount.

Alexander Buttner has said he still gets the shivers when he thinks about his Old Trafford move. Buttner joined the club towards the end of the summer transfer window and says he still feels a little overawed by the fact he has joined such a hugely popular football club and brand.

Manchester United forward Nick Powell has been awarded the League Two Player of the Year Award for last season. United signed Powell from Crewe over the summer and he has had an instant impact in his limited first team appearances so far this season.
