Transfer Talk: Featuring Balotelli and Anelka

Balotelli Inter George M Groutas

Arsenal, Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Manchester United, and West Ham are the talk of the papers today.

All the latest transfer news and gossip from the past 24 hours...

Arsenal have made Edin Dzeko and Wilfried Zaha their top two targets for January, write the Mirror. However the paper claim the Gunners will offer just £7 million for the Crystal Palace starlet, who was just been called into the England squad, a figure which is almost certainly going to be rejected. Palace will ask for closer to double that. As for Dzeko, the chances of City selling him remain slim, with assistant coach David Platt commenting today that the Bosnian is an important member of the team and must fight for his place.

Chelsea meanwhile have told ESPN they have no intention of selling Ashley Cole in January, with PSG heavily linked. Cole is a free agent next summer, but the Blues have no intention of cashing in during the next transfer window, and will let his contract wind down similar to Drogba if it remains unresolved.

Frank Lampard is said to be in talks with Chinese side Guizhou Renhe, with a paper in the country claiming the club are hoping to make him captain in January. Lampard is currently out injured and has missed several important games for the club of late. Read the full report here.

ESPN claim Manchester City are ready to cut their losses on Mario Balotelli. Despite having no injury or illness, or even suspension, the Italian striker was dropped against Tottenham yesterday, and did not even make the bench. He is fourth choice striker, and would fetch a substantial fee, and clear up space in attack to sign a new forward. AC Milan are keen admirers and his most likely destination, with a figure of £20 million mooted, but a return to Inter is also potentially on the cards.

Manchester United have not given up on Robert Lewandowski, report the Mirror. How true this is remains to be seen. United of course have Rooney, Van Persie, Welbeck and Hernandez in attack, neither of which appear to be going anywhere soon.

And finally here's an intriguing one - Nicolas Anelka for West Ham. It is being reported that Anelka's contract at Shanghai Shenhua could be terminated, and Sam Allardyce could look to sign the French striker who he brought to Bolton. Anelka remains 33, and will have a point to prove, and while there is no movement on this for now, watch this space.
