Manchester United latest: Including Van Persie and Rooney injuries

Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie will not play for the Netherlands this week due to a thigh injury. Van Persie picked up the knock during United’s win away at Aston Villa. He joins Wayne Rooney on the treatment table who was also taken off during the game with an ankle problem.

Wayne Rooney may miss the weekend match against Norwich City due to an ankle injury. Rooney carried the problem for part of the win over Aston Villa before he was subbed off. He has already withdrawn from England’s mid-week friendly away in Sweden.

Fresh reports this morning have claimed that Manchester United are still trying to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish front man has been linked with United since the summer and national newspapers have quoted £16 million as the free in question.

Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed Javier Hernandez as the complete professional. Hernandez came off of the bench at the weekend to effectively win United the match against Aston Villa on his own. Hernandez bagged two goals with an own goal leading to a 3-2 win for the current league leaders.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Serie A defender Philippe Mexes according to online rumours. Sir Alex Ferguson could be looking for extra defensive muscle in the knowledge that Nemanja Vidic may struggle to make the first team until well after the New Year.

Former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has led Norwegian side Molde to a second successive league title. Recent reports have suggested that United are keeping one eye on their former player as a possible long term replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson. Solskjaer has already managed the United reserve team.

Former Manchester United player Paul Pogba has taken a swipe at Sir Alex Ferguson. The Juventus star says he has settled into life so quickly in Italy because he feels valued and appreciated. He says the difference between Juventus and United is almost non-existent.

Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson asked him to leave the club at a petrol station. Stam has claimed that Ferguson urged him to move to Italian club Lazio quickly so United could spend the extra funds generated by the transfer.
