Arsenal latest: Including January spending spree and Jenkinson

News and gossip from The Emirates in the past 24 hours.

Carl Jenkinson has been rewarded by the club for his excellent performances this season with a new five-year deal at The Emirates. The right-full-back was already celebrating his call-up to the full England squad for the first time before receiving news of the clubs intentions to give him a long term contract. The former Charlton Athletic trainee has impressed for The Gunners while standing in for the injured Bacary Sagna at the start of the campaign.

Emmanuel Frimpong could go out on loan from Arsenal this week. The Ghanaian midfielder has suffered a series of serious injuries during his time at The Emirates which have severely hindered his progress. There were rumours earlier in the day that Frimpong could even be sold in January, but this evening the player has denied this himself on Twitter. He said he 'needs to get games' and Wolves and Ipswich are among those interested.

Arsenal youngster Chuks Aneke has once again extended his loan spell at Crewe Alexandra. The 19-year-old has impressed Railwaymen boss Steve Davis in his spell so far and he has signed a one-month extension to his current deal which will see the midfielder remain at Gresty Road until the 17th December.

Arsene Wenger insists that they are not yet out of the fight for the Premier League title. He obviously conceded it would be a difficult task considering their current position in the league table but when asked whether his side could still win the league he responded ‘’Of course, yes why not.’’

Wenger has also spoken of how he feels the international break will have a detrimental effect on his team. International teams are in action in midweek and with Arsenal facing Spurs in the North-London derby directly after the fixtures he is worried some of his players run the risk of becoming burnt out from their excursions. He did concede that this was the same for every club involved in the Champions League but was still quick to point out that it was ‘bad’ for Arsenal.

Wilfried Zaha and Edin Dzeko will reportedly be part of a spending spree at The Emirates this January. Arsene Wenger has been given the green light to splurge out on new talent in the winter after watching his thin squad struggle with competing on so many fronts this season. Among other names on the list alongside the Crystal Palace and Manchester City pair are Adrian Lopez, Fernando Llorente, Pepe Reina and Edison Cavani.

QPR stopper Julio Cesar has revealed he rejected an offer from Arsenal to sign for the club this summer. He decided to move to Loftus Road as he felt there was a higher opportunity for a future role when he ends his playing career.
