Arsenal let a two-goal lead slip in Germany as they drew 2-2 with Schalke 04 last night. Arsenal had started well and took a two-goal lead through Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud but were pegged back by Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Jefferson Farfan in Gelsenkirchen. Walcott did well to earn a late chance but it was well stopped by the Schalke goalkeeper.
Former Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios has admitted he could move back to Europe in January after a move to Chinese super club Guangzhou Evergrande has failed to be a success. This will likely stir up interest from Arsene Wenger who is believed to be a firm admirer of the Paraguay international from his time in Germany. The forward would cost around £9million and recently announced he would definitely not be on his way to former club Colo-Colo which leaves Arsenal with a genuine chance of securing his services.
Jack Wilshere has been looking on the bright side of his enforced break from football this weekend. The England international was sent off at Old Trafford last weekend but following his recent long absence from football with various injuries he feels a break from action could help him in his overall recovery. Instead he has his mind focused on the North London derby the week after.
He also spoke of his belief that Arsenal cannot afford to lose Theo Walcott. The 23-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and it has been rumoured that Arsenal might cash in on him sooner than the summer expiry date. Wilshere feels he is a brilliant player who brings something different to the team and being a fellow England international is an important asset to the club.
Theo Walcott has stated that he ‘fully deserves’ a run in the first team after impressive performances against Reading and Schalke. He is currently in the midst of protracted contract negotiations at The Emirates and rumours have seen him linked with clubs from Chelsea to Spartak Moscow. Wenger has stated he wants to keep the England international and now he wants to prove himself with an extended run in the first-team.
Partizan Belgrade’s talented youngster Lazar Markovic is reportedly looking increasingly likely to sign for Inter Milan. Arsenal have been linked for the player along with clubs such as Liverpool, Roma, Barcelona and Chelsea however it now appears that the Nerazzurri are the frontrunners for the signing of this precocious talent.
