Arsenal latest: Including Koscielny and Song

News and gossip from Arsenal FC in the past 24 hours.

Arsenal keeper Vito Mannone has moved to quell suggestions he is on the verge of leaving the club. Rumours have started that he may be on his way to Napoli after impressing while deputising for Wojciech Szczesny in the Arsenal goal. The 24-year-old signed from Atalanta in 2005 and also moved to dispel talk that his contract expires at the end of the season insisting he has ‘a few more years’ and talk of a move to AC Milan is simply a personal goal for the future, not something he is immediately interested in.

Laurent Koscielny has launched a scathing attack on Liverpool’s Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez. The French international has branded the striker the worst player he has to face in the Premier League in an interview with L’Equipe, stating that the controversial forward is a ‘tiresome’ ‘cheat’. He is not the first person to criticise the 25-year-old in recent weeks as he continues to face widespread vitriol for his continued apparent simulation.

Nicklas Bendtner has taken a backhanded swipe at Arsenal’s training methods by claiming that the training regime at Juventus is the best he has ever been involved in. The Danish international is currently on the fringes of the Bianconeri first team but scored recently against Bulgaria for his country. He puts his new sleek physique down to the work he has done since he has been in Turin and claims he is in his best form for years, and is patiently waiting an opportunity to prove himself with The Old Lady.

England have failed in a last minute bid to call up Carl Jenkinson to the national team for Tuesday’s qualifier against Poland. The Arsenal full-back was being pursued to come in after Ryan Bertrand and Frank Lampard pulled out of the squad. However, as he has represented Finland at under-21 level, FIFA require three weeks clearance before he can switch allegiances to the senior England side. It is however expected that Roy Hodgson will announce his desire to play for England and not Finland in a press-conference tomorrow after training with the squad at London Colney.

Crystal Palace have confirmed that Wilfiried Zaha is not for sale, despite Dougie Freedman putting a £14 million price-tag on the Ivorian born England-under-21 international. Eagles co-chairman Steve Browett insists that if Zaha is playing in the Premier League next season it will be so as a Crystal Palace player despite interest from Arsenal among others.

Arsenal’s Spanish playmaker Santi Cazorla has admitted he tries to emulate Andres Iniesta when playing for Arsenal. His Spanish team-mate is among the best players in the world and Cazorla admitted that he tries to copy some of the tricks Iniesta produces but often fails, getting tangled up in the process.

Alex Song has publicly spoken of his affection for former manager Arsene Wenger. The Cameroon international claims that Wenger ‘was like a father’ to him when he arrived as a 17-year-old and insists the Frenchman will be happy with his progress, even if it is now being utilised by Barcelona.
