News, views, and gossip surrounding Tottenham Hotspur over the last 24 hours.

New signing Jan Vertonghen has revealed he does not intend on playing at left-back for long. The Belgian has been filling in at the position in the absence of Benoit Assou-Ekotto through injury, and has impressed, opening the scoring against Manchester United at Old Trafford. His adaptability has seen Steven Caulker come in at centre-back and establish himself alongside William Gallas.

Vertonghen said: "At Tottenham I play left-back because of injuries. Marc Wilmots likes that perhaps (his Belgian national coach), but I've got other ambitions." Tottenham are well stocked in the position, with Michael Dawson and the injured Younes Kaboul.

Gareth Bale's recent nemesis Charlie Adam has called for a truce between himself and the Spurs winger, as the pair head into battle when Wales take on Scotland tomorrow night. Perhaps a start would be for the now Stoke midfielder to stop injuring him? Bale criticised Adam after a pre-season friendly between Spurs and Liverpool in the States, when the winger was fortunate not to escape without more serious injury from an Adam challenge.

There is already an injury worry concerning Gareth Bale ahead of the match, which will no doubt alarm Tottenham fans. The winger missed training this morning with a heel injury, and coach John Hartson has said while he is hopeful the player will be fit for the game, he is currently undergoing treatment.

The father of Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta has revealed how his son previously turned down a move to Tottenham. The forward has since suffered with injuries and  has become an outcast at the Italian champions, and at 32, his chance to move to Spurs has now surely passed him by.

Clint Dempsey will line-up against a former Tottenham trainee when the USA take on Antigua and Barbuda this weekend. Zaine Francis-Angol, born in Waltham Forest, now plays for Motherwell, and will be aiming to cause an upset in the World Cup qualifying match.
