Could Loic Remy to Chelsea spark a merry-go-round?

Sturridge And Torres

Chelsea are reportedly planning a January transfer swoop for Loic Remy, fuelling speculation that Daniel Sturridge may be moved on in sacrifice.

Loic Remy is a name that is constantly linked with a move to the English Premier League. Under the stewardship of Harry Redknapp the French striker was constantly a target for the Tottenham Hotspurs. Now it seems thatChelseaare interested in the Marseille hit man, yet to register a goal this season.

The club apparently sent a scout, to the Stade Velodrome, last Sunday to watch the striker in action during the 2-2 with Paris Saint Germain. With Marseille involved in the Europa Cup it would mean that, shouldChelsea progress, the player would be eligible to feature in the later stages of the Champions League.

Any move for Remy in January is likely to cost around £15m, but despite Abramovich’s millions theLondonclub may feel pushed to move Daniel Sturridge on, for a similar fee, to sanction such a move.

Sturridge has struggled with injury this season and as a result has only made four appearances as a substitute for the blues. Conversely Chelsea are a team with limited striking options, meaning that it may be the act of a crazy man to let Sturridge leave, even with the arrival of Remy.

If Sturridge were allowed to leave in January there would be no shortage of candidates wishing to sign him. Aston Villa are keen on the 23 year oldEnglandinternational, and Sturridge is a life long Villa fan.

The move seems unlikely however, as Lambert is working with a restricted budget and only recently signed striker Christian Benteke for £7m. That leaves Liverpool as the other interested party. Rodgers missed out on Dempsey during the transfer window and the Merseyside club needs a reliable partner for Suarez.

Maybe Remy moving to Chelsea would spark a huge transfer merry-go-around in January? West Ham signs Andy Carroll on a permanent basis, arming Liverpool with the funds for a striker. Villa accept a bid from Liverpool for the out of favour Darren Bent, thus freeing up space and money to bring Sturridge to Villa Park. The January transfer window is already looking exciting.
