News and gossip from Arsenal FC in the past 24 hours.
Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone’s good start to the season whilst deputising for the injured Wojciech Szczesny has not gone unnoticed as Italian side Napoli are reportedly interested in bringing the 24-year-old back to his homeland as a long-term successor to veteran Morgan de Sanctis. A fee of around £4 million pound has been quoted for his services and Arsenal may be interested in cashing in on him while interest peaks.
Arsenal believe they will take a £5.5 million hit on South Korean international Park Chu-Young. The forward, who is currently on loan at Celta Vigo has made barely any impact since his arrival from Monaco and Arsenal have written off his wages in the current balance as they prepare to offload him, potentially for nothing, from The Emirates.
Arsenal vow they will not break the bank to hold on to contract rebel Theo Walcott. The England international has already turned down an offer of £75,000-a-week to remain at The Emirates. Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood insists that they will not break their current wage structure in order to keep hold of the 23-year-old.
More rumours have abounded that link Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha with a move to The Emirates. Arsene Wenger is reportedly a fan of the dual nationality Ivorian-Brit and is believed to be ready to meet the £12 million valuation on his talents as a replacement for Theo Walcott.
The interest in Bacary Sagna from Italian side Internazionale has once again come to light in Italian reports. The Frenchman, who is near to a return from injury, had questioned the transfer policy of the club earlier in the year but that now seems to be water under the bridge as Wenger expects him to sign an extension to his current deal which ends in 2014. This hasn’t stopped the Nerazzurri from reportedly contacting the player’s agent about a potential move.
Spanish international Santi Cazorla has won his second EA Sports Player of the Month award for the club in a row. He has been in impressive form and managed to overcome competition from Gervinho and Carl Jenkinson to take the award for the second consecutive time.
Pep Guardiola has been linked with the Arsenal job when Arsene Wenger leaves the role. Former Barcelona enforcer Rafael Marquez believes Guardiola would relish the chance to manage in England with Arsenal being his perfect destination. The New York Red Bulls defender who currently plays with former Gunner’s legend Thierry Henry even believes such a turn of events could happen as early as next season.
Another of Arsenal’s bright sparks has put pen to paper on their first professional contract. Chuba Akpom has impressed enough to join Austin Lipman and Jack Jebb in signing new contracts in the past month, all of whom are English giving hope to national supporters of the North London club.
