The Blackburn Rovers managerial race has seen an abundance of names linked with the role and one of those names linked with this potential management opportunity certainly put in a great performance last night that would have given his chances of a potential interview at least a massive boost.
Paolo Sousa has been linked with the role and after gaining Championship experience during mixed spells with QPR, Swansea City and Leicester the Portuguese trainers-and-trousers wearing coach had a night to remember as his Hungarian side Videoton welcomed his old club Sporting to the 14,000 -seater Sostoi Stadion in Szekesfehervar.
They tore Sporting apart in the first half with goals from Brazilian defender Paulo Vinicius, former Chelsea youngster Filipe Oliveira and goal-machine summer Swansea target Nemanja Nikolic.
Sure Sporting aren’t the same side as they were but they did knock Manchester City out of the Europa League last season.
Paolo has the Championship experience and is now excelling at a little known Hungarian side so could he be a genuine contender for the Blackburn job, especially off the back of this historic victory.
But he wasn’t alone, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer masterminded his Norwegian outfit to a triumph over Bundesliga opposition. Stuttgart came unstuck as Jo Inge Berget and Daniel Chukwa scored in the second half to secure a famous victory for Molde in the Aker Stadion.
Both have certainly thrown their hats in the ring with these Europa League performances.
What do you make of these two candidates?
