Liverpool can breathe a huge sigh of relief after scans revealed Daniel Agger’s knee injury is just bruising and not ligament damage. The defender had to be carried off on a stretcher during the Premier League game against Manchester United amid fears that he would be out for a number of weeks or months. The club have been told that he can return to training once the swelling goes down.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and defender Glen Johnson have leapt to the defence of striker Luis Suarez. Suarez was denied a penalty during the match against Manchester United with pundits commenting after the game that he is a victim of his own reputation for previous diving attempts to win penalties. Both players have said this is not in Suarez’s nature and that he has been treated harshly and should not be pre-judged.
Liverpool conditioning coach Darren Burgess has left the club to return home to Australia. Burgess is the third member of Liverpool’s current medical staff to leave the club this year. It is thought that manager Brendan Rodgers is trying to bring in a number of individuals he worked with during his time as manager of Swansea City in a major staff shake up at the club.
Merseyside Police have said they will not pursue action against Liverpool and Manchester United fans involved in offensive chanting during the match last weekend. United fans were heard to be singing anti-Liverpool songs after they were apparently provoked by a section of Liverpool supporters during the game. There will be no cautions or prosecutions issued.
Liverpool midfield player Nuri Sahin says he is hoping his loan move to Liverpool will allow him to get back into the Turkey international team. Sahin signed for the club on loan from Real Madrid towards the end of the summer transfer window. Sahin has been a key figure since he arrived at the club and he seems to have a key role in the philosophy manager Brendan Rodgers is trying to brand on the club.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has said that talented youth player Andre Wisdom has a big role to play at the club. Wisdom made his Liverpool debut in the Europa League fixture against Young Boys and Rodgers has said he has knowledge beyond his years. The 19-year-old is yet to make his domestic debut at the club but Rodgers insists it won’t be too long in coming.
Tottenham and United States striker Clint Dempsey has revealed that he was never close to signing for Liverpool. Dempsey has admitted there was interest from Liverpool and that both parties had talks but has revealed that these talks never produced anything productive. Dempsey subsequently joined Spurs when the move fell apart and has said Liverpool never wanted him enough to make things happen.
