Arsenal latest: Including Walcott and Miyaichi

News and gossip from Arsenal FC in the past 24 hours.

Arsenal will likely feel aggrieved at not bringing home three points from the home of the Champions after an excellent display against Manchester City at The Etihad stadium yesterday. Arsenal played well throughout the game and conceded a headed Joleon Lescott goal against the run of play just before half-time which would have had Arsene Wenger wondering just how? The continued to impress in the second half and eventually that pressure told when Laurent Koscielny rifled home a shot after Manchester City failed to properly clear a corner in the 82nd minute; final score Manchester City 1-1 Arsenal.

Theo Walcott has broken his silence on his contract negotiations. He has declared he wants to stay a Gooner and go onto become a club legend like Thierry Henry. Walcott is into his final year of his contract and is free to speak to other clubs from January 1. He also claims the delays are 'not about the money' telling ITV that his last contract took more than six months to sort out. He also adds he wants to play up front rather than on the right wing.

Roberto Martinez has announced he is happy with the progress of Arsenal loanee Ryo Miyaichi at the DW Stadium despite him only playing a handful of minutes so far. However his cameo against Fulham at the weekend came in for specific praise. There is hope that he can have an impact during the Carling Cup this week and push for more regular football at the club in doing so.

Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal have more than enough capability to mount a serious title challenge this season and believes the result and performance against Manchester City proves this beyond doubt. Arteta has been one of the integral cogs in the Arsenal machine this season that sees them sitting fifth in the table and just four points behind leaders Chelsea ahead of their Saturday rendezvous at The Emirates.

Branislav Ivanovic has been speaking candidly about the game with The Gunners admitting it will be his Chelsea side’s biggest challenge of the season so far. Chelsea have had an impressive start to the season and after scraping a 1-0 win over Stoke this weekend find themselves sitting top of the Premier League. However the Serbian admits he is concerned at just how well Arsenal have started the season and believed The Blues will have to be at their very best to come away with anything from the London derby.

Following on from tying down impressive England youth international Jack Jebb to a professional deal last week Arsenal have given one the same reward to another Young Gunner in the shape of academy scholar Austin Lipman. He made his first steps into the Under-18 team last season and has since become a regular scoring his first goal against Norwich recently. He can play up-front or out wide and is has also been capped by England at youth level.

All of Arsenal’s current loanees started their respective ties as substitutes this weekend with Nicklas Bendtner, Conor Henderson and Philip Roberts making their debuts while Park Ju Young made an immediate impact for Celta Vigo when the South Korean scored an almost immediate winner against Getafe after being brought on in the 65th minute.
