Chelsea latest: Including Fellaini and Champions League

Chelsea will tempt Everton to part with Marouane Fellaini with a £30m bid after the midfielder claimed on international duty this season will be his last with the Merseyside club. Manager David Moyes hinted that the club could let Fellaini go if an adequate offer were to be proposed: ‘I won’t say there’s no chance in the next window because everybody is available throughout the world if the offer is right.'

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo insists he is not perturbed by Fernando Torres’ form or attitude but has promised Daniel Sturridge more game time in the coming weeks playing in a central striking position. Di Matteo explained that the Blues will play 7 games in 21 days and therefore the team will have to be rotated to manage the exertions of a congested fixture list.

And Di Matteo believes Chelsea’s Champions League success means teams play ‘with extra motivation’ against his side rendering the task to defend the Champions League extremely difficult: ‘I’m aware no team has defended the trophy and I’m not surprised because it’s such a difficult competition to win. To win it twice in a row has proven impossible so far, because it’s so competitive.’

Fernando Torres has outlined his personal ambitions for the season by acknowledging that he must step up following Didier Drogba’s departure. Speaking before Saturday’s 0-0 draw with QPR, Torres added that the team will look to challenge for the Premier League two years after Chelsea last won it and will aim to defend their Champions League trophy.

Frank Lampard has urged his teammates to forget last year’s triumph in the Champions League and attempt to win it again. Chelsea open their European campaign on Wednesday night against Juventus at Stamford Bridge and Lampard is wary that Chelsea do not underestimate their group.-

Chelsea have injury concerns going into the Juventus game following Saturday’s goalless draw with QPR. John Terry and John Obi Mikel picked up minor knocks towards the end of the Premier League game but manager Roberto Di Matteo quelled fears by stating the team have no ‘major’ concerns. Juan Mata will return following an extended break over the international period but Marko Marin is unlikely to feature having only just returned from a thigh injury.

Chelsea are considering an £8m move for Barcelona youngster Gerard Deulofeu, according to the Daily Express. The 18-year-old winger made his first senior appearance for Barcelona last season in a 5-0 league win over Mallorca but is yet to feature this year as he continues his development with the Barcelona B team. Chelsea could tempt the player with more first-team opportunities available at the London club.

New signing Oscar has told the Daily Star Sunday that he cannot wait to play in the Champions League. The 21-year-old joined Chelsea from Brazilian side Internacional in the summer and is yet to experience European football but hopes he can play a role in champions Chelsea’s campaign this season.
