NFL reach agreement to screen games in UK on Sky

Sky will screen tomorrow night's Cowboys vs Giants opening NFL game, bringing to a close an agonising wait for UK fans.

Phew, that was close. With just over 24 hours to go, NFL UK have struck an agreement with Sky to show tomorrow's opening game.

The news was confirmed by presenter Kevin Cadle on Twitter this evening.

Sky will also show the Colts v Bears at 6pm on Sunday, followed by the San Francisco 49ers against Green Bay Packers.

A three-year broadcasting deal has been struck, with up to 60 games per year to be shown. There had been immense worry among fans a deal would not be agreed, causing thousands of fans to flood forums and Twitter with complaints.

Managing director for the NFL UK Alistair Kirkwood said: “We are delighted to extend the relationship between the NFL and Sky Sports into its twentieth year. Through their coverage the game has attracted many new fans in this country, and we look forward to another three seasons of excellent coverage of including the International Series matches at Wembley and the next three Super Bowls.”
