With the season a week away and the Community Shield passing by this weekend many a forecaster tries his own judgement and hazards a guess at the upcoming season. I love a prediction so who out of these big contenders will win the golden boot this season, as the Premier Leagues top marksman?
He scored 30 goals in all competitions last season with 23 coming in the Premiership, with another season of success in the reckoning at Eastland’s, the 24 year old Argentine will hope to increase the tally this season, although finishing like his miss at Villa Park this Sunday will not help.
Manchester United’s perennial goalscorer has to be on top form if they are to reclaim the English crown from their ‘noisy neighbours’. If he has managed to slim down over the summer Wayne will be difficult to stop adding another goalscoring season to his CV.
Robin Van Persie
Last season’s best at finding the net may repeat his feat next time around, as long as he’s not doing the job for The Old Lady in Serie A. Juventus seem set on Fernando Llorente now so whether in the red of United the blue of City or still at the Emirates RVP is a strong favourite for the coveted prize.
Could we see the resurrection of Torres this season? His general play is still iffy but after scoring without a flinch against Man City at Villa Park and a goal laden Euro 2012 Fernando would love to confound and silence his critics in 2012-13.
Took the league by storm with 13 goals in 14 appearances last term and will hope to continue that sort of goalscoring form into the new season. With Newcastle pushing to establish themselves as top 6 contenders his goals will also be needed.
Another player who really could do with a positive season after a tumultuous 2011-12. With Liverpool under new management the Uruguayan will be looking to let his feet do the talking this season and get back to doing what he does best, scoring goals.
Another who made an impact in the second half of the season following a transfer the Croatian will be hoping to fire Everton into Europe this season. He scored 9 goals in 13 games, which is definitely the right sort of form, but Everton don’t score many so he will have to be extremely consistent to challenge the big boys.
Man City have more than one Argentine who could top the charts this season, and after looking sharp and fit in the Community Shield; Tevez will be hoping to cause a fuss on the pitch rather than off it.
After a positive Euro 2012 the controversial striker joins a long list of potential top scorers this season with points to prove. If he has matured enough to not get sent off every other game then sure he could do it, but I wouldn’t bet on the lad.
The forgotten man after an injury ravaged season, he is ready and raring to go this time around with a new manager at the helm in Paul Lambert. The Scot admits Bent’s return to fitness equates to a new signing. His brace in a recent friendly with Werder Bremen will fill him with confidence going into the new campaign.
Which one of these or any other players you can think of will take the Golden Boot this season?
