Idiot Causes Mayhem By Sending Novelty Grenade To 2 World Financial Center

Smoke Grenade

One joke that really wasn't very funny.

Thursday AM - The New York Police Department ordered an evacuation of 2 World Financial Center, one of the buildings close to Ground Zero in lower Manhattan, after a suspicious package said to have been sent to an employee at Nomura was examined and was thought to have possibly contained a grenade.

A full evacuation of the building is thought to have occurred, with employees at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Commerzbank, Deloitte and Nomura among those told to make an orderly exit.

Police said that further examination of the package revealed that it was 'a grenade-like novelty item mounted on a plaque with a sign: Complaint Dept. Pull Pin'.

One banker told Here Is The City: 'Although 9/11 happened over 10 years ago, this kind of thing really makes people nervous here. In the end, this turned out to be a novelty item, but whoever sent it did so without thinking. It really was a bit stupid. It frightened a lot of people, and brought back terrible memories for some'.
