Norton Rose Announces Double Partner Hire

Herman Wamelink

International legal practice Norton Rose LLP has announced the addition of two new partners in Amsterdam.

Herman Wamelink joins as a banking partner from Allen & Overy whilst Maartje Govaert joins as an employment partner from De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek.

Wamelink has broad experience in advising large banks, investors and mid- and large cap companies on acquisition finance transactions and general corporate financings. In recent years, he has led a number of high profile transactions in these fields, including restructurings. In his new role, Wamelink will focus on expanding the acquisition and corporate finance practice of the Amsterdam office and support the rest of Norton Rose LLP in cross-border complex financing transactions.

Govaert has 13 years experience of practicing employment law in London, New York and Amsterdam and has worked with international clients on a number of significant cross-border projects, both as part of wider corporate transactions as well as stand-alone employment work. At Norton Rose LLP she will add partner level expertise to the existing employment practice in Amsterdam and significantly strengthen its employment capability.

Ep Hannema, partner and head of the Amsterdam office at Norton Rose LLP, commented: 'We currently have a well established practice in Amsterdam with over 50 lawyers providing a full range of services including tax and notarial support, and including English qualified banking lawyers. I welcome both Herman and Maartje to the practice. They join us in response to increased client demand, following our significant expansion and their arrival is a strong indication of our ambition to further grow the Dutch practice'.

Wamelink said: 'Norton Rose has a long established reputation for banking and financial institutions work globally. It clearly has an ambition to continue building on that reputation in particular by expanding the banking offering in the Netherlands. I look forward to playing my part in its continued success'.

Govaert said: 'I have watched the recent expansion of Norton Rose carefully. Its global strategy and culture present exciting opportunities for an internationally orientated specialist like myself. I am looking forward to further developing and strengthening the international employment practice as part of the Amsterdam team'.
