This January, an art installation will open on top of the Southbank Centre. It's a super-cool boat that's also a room for two, and they start taking reservations this Thursday (8th Sept).
Because of an organisation called Living Architecture, which gives people first-hand experience with amazing architecture by providing destinations for holidays. To call their works holiday rentals doesn't really feel right, although that is what they are.
And as it turns out, they have several places beyond A Room in London, which also has a second-floor library with windows all around an a log-book that visitors are required to sign.
There's also The Balancing Barn in Suffolk, which sleeps eight, and is covered in silver tiles.
The Shingle House in Kent sleeps nine in a collection of fisherman's huts on a stark beach.
The Dune House in Suffolk has a bigger beach space for nine, including a living/dining room you'll never want to leave.
The Long House in Norfolk, which will start taking guests (10) in November 2011, features a medieval-style great room.
The end of 2012 will bring The Secular Retreat in Devon.
Prices for the houses above start around £750 for a four-day weekend (which works out to be around £25 per person per night). Our guess is that the London room will only be available for one night at a time, and will be priced well below £100. But more information will be coming soon.
These places are amazing, so make a note in your calendar to make a booking on Thursday.
