Go The F*ck To Sleep (REVIEW)

Go The F To Sleep

We are nothing if not highbrow over here at HITC Life. But we have a weakness for the f-bomb. And in this children's book, it is generously dropped.

It sits next to traditional children's imagery, creating a hilariously incongruous picture:

The cats nestle close to their kittens now. The lambs have laid down with the sheep. You’re cozy and warm in your bed, my dear. Please go the fuck to sleep.

Hilarious, no?

Author Adam Mansbach is clearly writing from experience, listing all of the tricks his toddler uses, and getting more and more pissed off with every page.

The eagles who soar through the sky are at rest And the creatures who crawl, run, and creep. I know you’re not thirsty. That’s bullshit. Stop lying. Lie the fuck down, my darling, and sleep.

It goes on a bit too long, and by the end, he's kind of in a rage. But then, putting a two- or three-year old to bed can be totally fucking enraging at times.

We wish we could just send you a URL and you could read the whole thing online, like Good Night Keith Moon, our other current favourite. But like that book, this one will be available to buy through the usual channels. It's being released in the UK this autumn (27 October), and will be available to buy in the US on 14 June.
