New York City's Mayor Bloomberg was rubbing his hands in anticipation Wednesday, excited at the prospect that UK bank Barclays was mulling over a change of domicile to the United States (and by definition his city)
'It would be a great move for them to move here', Bloomberg said at a press briefing, 'I hope they move here; it'd be great for us'.
'London is where we want to be', Barclays Chief Executive Officer Bob Diamond told a conference in London Wednesday, however, '(But) of course, it’s our obligation on behalf of our shareholders to look at the alternatives. But this is home and where we want to stay'.
So, is Barclays playing chicken with UK plc, or is the bank really serious about a move ?
