Threadneedle Appoints Head Of Product And Business Development, Asia Pacific

Threadneedle has appointed Andrew Chan as Head of Product and Business Development for Asia Pacific, as the firm continues to expand its Asian team in order to drive regional growth.

In this key new role, Chan will oversee the development and delivery of client-focused product and service solutions to meet the needs of investors in a range of Asian markets. He will report to Asia Pacific Chairman Raymundo Yu and will be based in Threadneedle’s Singapore office.

Supporting Chan, Threadneedle has also recently appointed Tony Poon, Head of Client Service and Business Manager, North Asia, and Harry Tan, Head of Client Service and Business Manager, South Asia. Poon and Tan will be responsible for providing business development, management and operational support for wholesale and institutional clients. They will also have local regulatory responsibilities.

Chan brings more than 28 years experience in financial services in Asia. He spent 24 years at Merrill Lynch in a variety of business management, development, product and marketing roles, predominantly in the private banking and private wealth management businesses.

When Chan retired from Merrill Lynch in 2009 he was Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer, Global Wealth Management, Pacific Rim and was also General Manager, Merrill Lynch International Bank Ltd, a member of the Board of Directors of Merrill Lynch International Bank Ltd Ireland, and a member of the Board of Directors of Smith Zain (Penang) Sdn Bhd, Malaysia.

Chan joins Threadneedle after having spent the past two years fulfilling his dream of travelling to exotic locales around the world. Poon brings to Threadneedle over 24 years experience in Asian financial services. During a 24-year career at Merrill Lynch, he worked in the US and Singapore before returning to Hong Kong in 1994. He held various managerial positions in the company’s Global Wealth Management Group and was the Responsible Officer/Business Manager for North Asia.

Tan has over 28 years of wealth management experience. He worked at Merrill Lynch from 1980 until 2008, during which time he gained extensive experience of both back and front office functions. From 1980 to 1994, he held various positions in both securities and banking operations. Prior to his retirement in August 2008, he was the Head of Asia-Pacific Financial Advisory Services managing a team of Investment Consultants located in Singapore and Hong Kong, providing wealth management services to core affluent clients.

Threadneedle established a presence in Asia in 2008 and has offices in Singapore and Hong Kong. Part of Ameriprise Financial (NYSE: AMP), the company last year announced plans to expand its Asian business, building on its established presence and considerable investment capabilities, and that of its sister company Columbia Management.
