The Ultimate Honeymoon Destinations

Tanzania

Betrothed boys, read on. This is the third in HITC's mini-series about getting hitched. Madame A told you about picking the diamond, Mr Properly coached you on your role through the process, and now Black Tomato is going to help make your last big job a breeze. Booking the honeymoon.

Since they're the experts on decadent, bespoke holidays, it seemed only natural to call upon them.

Tanzania

Nothing is more romantic than sleeping under the stars. And if there’s one place you can forget about the rest of the world (which is what honeymoons are for, are they not?) it is the Greystoke Mahale sanctuary. This Tanzanian haven is set on a far-flung beach along the eastern shores of Lake Tanganyika, below a huge tropical forest. By day, explore this incredibly remote location, studded with lakes and populated by wildlife (the chimps are top of our list). At night, star-gaze under the incredible sky from your own private suite that looks out across the white beach to the lake. The atmosphere will be one of total relaxation and romantic bliss. Best time to enjoy this African oasis is July to March.

Lombok, Indonesia

The quintessential honeymoon? It’s got to be Bali. So why not try something a little less obvious. The beautiful island of Lombok is less developed than neighbouring Bali and has a seriously un-touristy vibe. This idyllic hangout has got it all - long sandy beaches, diving, hiking, and a unique culture. You'll have your own Balinese pavilion at the Oberoi Hotel where you can gaze over the sparkling Indian Ocean while enjoying tropical cocktails and Indonesian delicacies. The hotel is set on acres of tropical gardens and boasts a stunning infinity pool looking out across the ocean. Choose to have a romantic dinner in the privacy of your own garden, dine in the Lumbung restaurant overlooking the pool, or head down to the beachside Sunbird café for seafood specialties and views across to the Gili Islands. Just a 30-minute boat ride and you can explore the islands’ white sand beaches and snorkel through the breathtaking coral reefs. This is the stuff honeymoons should be made of. We suggest heading to Lombok from May to October.

Buenos Aires and Mendoza, Argentina

Chest to chest, in a warm embrace - we all know the Argentine Tango is the most intimately passionate dance. Why not get your groove on in the city that gave birth to it. Buenos Aires will certainly heat things up on your honeymoon. The capital is also easily on our top ten list for hip world cities. It consists of an eclectic collection of neighbourhoods, each with its own unique charm. Stroll the mansion-lined avenues of Recoleta, shop in the funky boutiques of Palermo Viejo or visit artists’ studios in San Telmo. Spending your nights in the effortlessly cool Home Hotel, you'll experience the height of boutique luxury. Here in the heart of Palermo Viejo, you are just a stone's throw from all the coolest hangouts. To really warm things up, couple your trip to Buenos Aires with a visit to the Winelands in Mendoza. This beautiful region is the heart of the county’s wine industry, perfectly located at the foot of the Andes Mountains and the ideal way to conclude your honeymoon getaway. Visit from September through March.

Shakti, India

Intrepid mountaineers, you need not be. But venture for a romantic, leisurely trek in the Himalayas and you will not be disappointed. If you are more interested in views by the bedside, then your stay at the Leti Lodge in Shakti overlooking Ramganga Valley will leave you breathless - and not from exertion. The camp sits high on a precipice offering majestic 360 degree views (clue's in the name) of lush mountainous landscapes and snow-capped peaks. Built with local materials and age-old techniques, the camp blends aesthetically with its surroundings, creating a harmonious and peaceful environment. It's the height of luxury with an authentic Himalayan feel, and makes for the most magnificent of honeymoon destinations. October through April are the best months to visit.
