We'll be covering the best ski resorts in the coming months, and to kick off the season, we bring you the hippest boutique lodge for you & your mates, and an eco-friendly option in the Swiss Alps with private runs.
Once you get past the name, you'll see that Meribel lodges are no laughing matter. This is seriously fabulous stuff for you and your friends.
The newest lodge, La Mézon dez Aluès, sleeps 12 in six bedrooms (including a penthouse suite) with ensuite bathrooms and super luxe furnishings. Oh, and pamper-kits, gastro-pub food, a games room, sauna, massage room and outdoor hot tub.
You can stay for a week or a long weekend (Thursday to Sunday) at this or the other lodges (which sleep up to 10 in one and 14 in the other). At approximately £600/room for the week and £425/weekend (including most meals and alcohol), it won't break the bank either.
Fly in and out of Geneva, and for weekly guests, transfer is only £50.
For the more adventurous, Whitepod offers three eco-friendly mountain pods.
All pods include a wood-burning stove and hand basin and a terrace with lounge chairs. Beyond that, you have three choices:
- Expedition - sleeps two in 25 square meters
- Pavilion - sleeps two (plus a sofa bed) in 50 square meters with in-pod toilet, and in-pod breakfast and spa treatments on request
- Group - sleeps up to eight in four double beds, 55 square meters with lounge area
But if you can deal with these circumstances, you get a private (though admittedly small) ski resort. Two lifts and a 600m descent are yours from dawn till dusk, and prices are about £200/night.
If you've got an exceptionally good resort we should write about, let us know!
