The red cups are back at Starbucks. So what. So what? So the Eggnog Latte is so damn good, that we're allocating 1.5kg of holiday weight gain (each) just because of them. Wonder what would happen if we added some rum...
Perhaps we should consider making it from scratch though, and inviting some friends over. That way we'll be less pathetic. (Although if we're together, isn't that enough?)
No. We should also serve some Mulled Wine and Mince Pies. The pies we can buy (see below), but the Mulled Wine, also from scratch.
Right! Let's get ready for our Penthouse Bash:
2 bottles of reasonably priced red wine
5-6 cinnamon sticks
5-6 whole cloves (no, not the kind you smoke)
5-6 whole allspice
peel of an orange (with no white left)
2-3 star anise
75-100g sugar (to taste)
1 cup of dark rum (added later)
Combine all ingredients except the rum over very low heat, but don't let it boil. Keep at this temperature for 10 minutes, then remove from heat and add rum. You can also put this in a slow cooker on low heat so it stays warm.
4 egg yolks
75g sugar, plus 1 Tablespoon
480ml whole milk
250ml heavy cream
3 shots of whisky
1 teaspoon of grated nutmeg
4 egg whites
In a bowl, beat yolks, then add sugar and mix until dissolved. Then mix in milk, cream, whisky and nutmeg.
In another bowl, beat the egg whites to a soft peak, then slowly add 1T sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
Whisk whites into mixture and chill.
