Aleksey Vayner (the man that can), that investment banking wannabee with the 11 page cv and video he sent in to support his job application to UBS Investment Bank, might have had the right idea after all. The New York Times 'DealBook' column reports that Morgan Stanley is participating in 'the ultimate internship contest', sponsored by Sony's Columbia Pictures. Eight intern positions are up for grabs at a variety of companies for (wait for it) the best video entries!
Morgan Stanley has put an intern slot up for grabs (other companies include Gap, NBC, PlayStation and Yahoo) and on Friday the Sony-owned grouper.com website posted the videos of the four Morgan Stanley semi-finalists. We love it! Well done Morgan Stanley - welcome to the 'YouTube' age!!
And, in an X-factor / American Idol twist, it's down to the public to now vote for their favourite candidate / video entry! As 'DealBook' says, the contest is 'loosely' based around the Will Smith film 'The Pursuit of Happyness', and has clearly been designed to drum up some publicity for it.
The 'Morgan Stanley four' are:
Quote - 'I'm not saying I'm the most talented applicant that you'll have, and I probably won't be the most intellectual. What I am is aware of my boundaries - because I don't have any!'.
'It's like Weight Watchers. If you don't put the work in, you don't get the results'.
Dieu-My Mimi N
'Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world'. (From American anthropologist Margaret Read)
Ray believes that investing is an art, rather than a science. 'I want to become a better artist', he says.
(Come back Aleksey - all is forgiven! God knows what the rest of the candidates were like!!)
