The Evening Standard's 'CitySpy' column has been having a little fun at Goldman's expense. The fine folks behind the column found out last week that, among the ranks of the 29 London-based bankers elevated earlier this month to demigod status (partner), only one was a woman - trader Sanaz Zaimi.
Now, it seems, only one candidate with a beard was allowed to join the partner club (and, no, that wasn't the female trader alluded to above). Rumours that the 'bearded one' USED to be a woman, however, are wide of the mark.
The firm also nominated 26 partners from Asia (including Japan), but strangely non of these are actually Asia (just kidding - that's NOT true!). As FinanceAsia.com points out, Asia got 22% of the new partner intake, although the region has only 14% of total headcount. Shows where Goldman Sachs sees the future.
