A US federal judge sentenced Jeff Skilling, the former Enron CEO, to 24 years and 4 months in clink Monday, after having been found guilty on 19 counts of Enron-related crimes earlier this year.
Although there is no parole in federal sentencing, Skilling will be able to accrue 2 months off his sentence each year for good behaviour, and he could be out in just over 20 years - when he will be 72 years old. To the very end, Skilling protested his innocence. He will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device while on release, waiting to be told which prison facility he must report to.
Skilling has confirmed that his lawyers will immediately appeal his prison time, which is effectively a life sentence.
